CAS Announces New Position of CAS Ambassador – Canada

The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Naheed Jaffer, FCAS, as the inaugural CAS Ambassador – Canada, a newly established and Board-approved role designed to advance the CAS’s strategic priorities and engagement efforts in Canada.

This milestone reflects the CAS’s commitment to growing and supporting our vibrant Canadian community of members, candidates, and employers. Approximately 12% of CAS members reside in Canada, and 17% of CAS exams are administered at Canadian locations.

The CAS Ambassador – Canada will:

  • Foster a nationwide network of property and casualty actuaries.
  • Serve as a liaison to CAS operating committees, and Canadian stakeholders, including the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA), regulators, Canadian universities and student associations.
  • Provide Canadian perspectives in Board discussions.
  • Support and tailor CAS strategic initiatives to meet the needs of current and future Canadian members.

A long-time leader within the Ontario Conference of Casualty Actuaries (OCCA), who most recently served as its President, Jaffer brings a wealth of experience and dedication to this role. He has also contributed significantly as a CAS volunteer in Exams and Admissions.

“The appointment of Naheed as our first CAS Ambassador – Canada is a clear signal of the CAS’s long-term commitment to Canada,” said Dave Cummings, CAS president. “Naheed’s enthusiasm, cross-Canada connections, and deep knowledge of the Canadian P&C actuarial space make him uniquely positioned to build strong, strategic bridges throughout the country. We are proud to continue investing in resources that support our Canadian members, candidates, and partners.”

This new appointment comes at a time of significant CAS focus on Canadian priorities. From co-branded research with the CIA to increasing exam access in Quebec, and from roundtable discussions to university visits, the CAS is actively listening and responding to feedback from Canadian stakeholders. The CAS invites our community to support Jaffer in his efforts to help build a stronger, more connected CAS community across North America.
