CLASSIFICATION: The Division of Insurance is currently accepting applications
for a Medical Malpractice Actuary. Salary to be determined based on
qualifications and experience. Filling of this position is subject to
appropriation and the obtainment of all necessary approvals from the Office of
Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation.

PRIMARY DUTIES: Incumbent will be assigned to the State Rating Bureau/Medical
Malpractice Unit and will have primary technical responsibility for
development of the actuarial positions of the State Rating Bureau on medical
malpractice insurance rates, rating plans, and rating rules; will provide
actuarial expertise with regard to related medical malpractice insurance
matters, such as review of policy language; and will perform other actuarial
duties as assigned regarding medical malpractice and other insurance lines.
Duties will include review of medical malpractice insurance rate filings to
ensure that proposed rates and classifications are not excessive, inadequate,
unreasonable, or unfairly discriminatory.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicant must be a member of the Casualty Actuarial Society
or a holder of a doctoral degree in a related discipline who is well-versed in
insurance ratemaking principles and methodologies. Familiarity with the
regulatory framework applicable to medical malpractice insurance rates in
Massachusetts is desired. Experience with spreadsheet, database, and word
processing software is required. Excellent writing and communications skills
are preferred.
