Abstract
It is becoming increasingly frequent for actuaries to be asked for advice as to the best means of providing pensions for the employees of large industrial establishments. The matter of pensions for employees in the public service has been given much attention during recent years and the reports of commissions appointed to investigate that subject, as well as the more recent legislation in that field, contain evidence that the theory of pensions and pension schemes is coming to be better and more generally understood.
