Research is vital to the growth of the actuarial profession and the Casualty Actuarial Society. Research refined and reviewed becomes part of CAS Publications and the canon of actuarial literature.
Research
To continuously expand and enhance the skills of the modern actuary, the CAS supports research in a variety of areas. The most recent requests for research can be found here, along with committee resources and past research projects.
Publications
The vast array of CAS publications encompass the theoretical aspects of actuarial science as well as the practical business facets of building a profession in property-casualty insurance.
Research Opportunities & Open Calls
Calls for Papers
Committees use this method to increase literature on specific topics. A program operates on either a one-year or two-year cycle. Finished papers end up published in the E-Forum and are often presented at CAS Meetings and Seminars. See open calls.
Individual Grants Competition
The Actuarial Foundation of Canada, Casualty Actuarial Society and Society of Actuaries’ Committee on Knowledge Extension Research together support the annual Individual Grants Competition to add to the advancement of knowledge in actuarial science.
Requests for Proposals
This process is used when there is a specific research question identified by a committee. Proposals are then sought from researchers to answer that research question. See open RFPs.
