Appointed Actuaries, Feedback Requested on New Required CE Log
The National Association of Insurance Commissioner’s (NAIC) Casualty Actuarial and Statistical Task Force (CASTF) is evaluating continued competence of appointed actuaries after receiving a designation and has requested the CAS and SOA develop a new continuing education (CE) log for use by appointed actuaries.
The CAS is requesting feedback on the new log before it is finalized by the CASTF and the NAIC. The new log, which is an Excel document that can be completed and submitted electronically, may be downloaded from the NAIC website. Please submit your feedback before February 28th to CAS Staff Actuary Ken Williams at kwilliams@casact.org.
This new log will be required of all appointed actuaries signing NAIC reserve opinions starting in 2021 (on 2020 annual statements). It includes documentation of categories as described by section 3.1.1 of the U.S. Qualification Standard. Note that while there is a new required log format, the actual CE requirements under the U.S. Qualification Standards are not changing.
This new worksheet is only required for members signing NAIC documents as appointed actuaries. While not required, all members are welcome to use the worksheet to document their continuing education as required by the CAS continuing education policy.
Please contact Ken with any questions.
