Call for Presentations: 2024 CAS Spring Meeting

The Spring Meeting Working Group (SMWG) issues the Call for Presentations for the 2024 Spring Meeting. Speakers are expected to travel in-person to the meeting to present.

General sessions will be 75-minutes long. Concurrent sessions will be 60-minutes long. Roundtables will be 50-minutes long. We will also be seeking half-day and full-day Workshops.

We are looking for sessions in the following key areas:

  1. Actuarial Toolkit (R, Python, Data Manipulation, Data Visualization)
  2. Bias Training
  3. Business Analytics/Problem Solving
  4. Catastrophes
  5. Economic Outlook
  6.  Enterprise Risk Management/Capital Management
  7. ESG/Climate/Sustainability
  8. Hot Topics
  9. Insurtech/AI
  10. International/Multi-National Issues
  11. Leadership/Soft Skills
  12. Line of Business (including Cyber Risk)
  13. Practice Areas (Ratemaking, Reinsurance, Reserving)(eg. Inflation, bias in pricing)
  14. Predictive Analytics
  15. Professionalism 

Workshop Highly Sought Topics – Will take place on Sunday, May 5:

  • Guidance on new ASOPs are requiring actuaries to consider the validity of a client’s chosen discount rate.
  • Bias testing implementation.
  • Climate change disclosures reporting practices - States like California is considering requiring Type 3 emissions reporting. 
  • Teaching recent exam material changes to bring senior actuaries up to speed.

The 2024 proposal reviewers will also pay particular attention the following criteria:

  • Sessions with interactive components such as case studies or group discussions.
  • Informative and relevant, with clear and immediate application to the work of audience participants.

We are looking for sessions that focus more deeply on a narrow topic that will help the audience leave the session with solid understanding and useful applications.
