CAS Admissions Team Seeking PCPA Volunteers
The CAS Admissions team is looking for volunteers to help with the new Property and Casualty Predictive Analytics (PCPA) requirement for ACAS. This offering will feature both an examination and a hands-on project component, designed to help candidates and professionals in the actuarial field gain a deeper understanding of key concepts and improve their predictive capabilities.
The PCPA is designed to be a foundational assessment of predictive analytics knowledge and applied practice. For ACAS candidates who enjoy the PCPA experience and want to keep progressing and take their PA experience to the next level, we are exploring ways to build a bridge to the CSPA as well.
The PCPA is scheduled for an official launch in May 2024 and will be an ACAS requirement beginning November 1, 2025. However, we are excited to provide an exclusive first offering this November 2023. The goal of the first offering is to gather statistical data on the assessments, capture feedback on the overall experience, and validate the estimated study times and project completion times.
Volunteers are needed for two roles:
- Grader (November–December, 2023)
- Standard Setting (the week of January 8, 2024)
As a Grader, you will play an essential role in this new initiative and contribute to enhancing the CAS credentialing pathway. Grader is expected to have a strong understanding of all covered topics for the exam and project, which are described in the PCPA content outline. Additionally, a Grader is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society or a Certified Specialist in Predictive Analytics (CSPA).
Volunteers are expected to attend a live 1-hour grader training webinar on November 29, 2023, or watch the recorded session soon afterward. Grading will begin November 29 and end by December 22, 2023, and will be completed asynchronously and virtually. The estimated total time commitment is 15 – 20 hours.
A Standard Setting volunteer is expected to have a strong understanding of all covered topics for the exam and project, which are described in the PCPA content outline.
Additionally, a standard setting volunteer is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society or a Certified Specialist in Predictive Analytics (CSPA).
Standard setting will take place the week of January 8, 2024. This will entail 2 half-day meetings, including one 4-hour session for exam standard setting and one 4-hour session for project standard setting. Both meetings will be live virtual sessions. There will also be approximately 3 hours of additional prework required before the group meetings (to be completed during the first week of January).
If you fit the parameters for qualification and are interested in becoming a grader or standard setting volunteer, please reply to admissions-volunteer@casact.org by Tuesday, November 7 and we can provide you with more information regarding this volunteer opportunity.
