Fall Exam Writers Needed! Win a $100 Gift Card!
The following Exam working groups are seeing volunteers to assist with writing this fall:
- Exams MAS-I and MAS-II (Modern Actuarial Statistics I and II)
- Exam 5 (Ratemaking and Estimated Claim Liabilities)
- Exam 7 (Advance Estimation of Claims Liabilities)
- Exam 9 (Risk Management for Actuaries)
Writers are responsible for creating the actual content of the exam using source materials, questions from previous exams, and other methods. An item writer is someone who has recently passed the exam and is expected to have a strong understanding of all covered topics for the exam. Additionally, a Writer is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS), or an Associate (ACAS) who does not plan to take exams for the next three years.
Volunteers are expected to begin writing virtually in August. There will be a training session online, and a writing summit September 22-24 in Philadelphia, PA. There is a strong preference for writers to attend the summit in-person.
The CAS reimburses for travel, and this is a great opportunity to volunteer in a new and exciting capacity, as well as network with other CAS members in a smaller, more intimate setting! Additionally, if you volunteer, you will be entered in a drawing to win a $100 American Express gift card!
If you fit the parameters for qualification and are interested in becoming an Exam Writer, please send an email to admissions-volunteer@casact.org with which exam you’re interested, and check out our Exam Writing and Grader Frequently Asked Questions.
