Statement From Pearson VUE Regarding May 1 Administration Issues

To the Casualty Actuarial Society Community:

On May 1, 2024, many Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) testing candidates at several test sites across the Pearson VUE network experienced exam delivery disruptions and complications. Our investigation into the matter identified a Pearson VUE software defect in the way memory is managed. This software defect impacted exam delivery across certain exams dependent on memory, including CAS exams. Although a fix was deployed within hours, the adverse impact created understandable frustration and distress for CAS candidates. With the changes implemented, we do not expect a recurrence of the issue. Given the impact, we have continued to monitor memory and system performance closely since the fix.

We understand the considerable time and effort the CAS puts into creating the exams and the CAS candidates invest in preparing for their exams, and deeply regret our inability to successfully deliver all CAS exams on May 1. We apologize for the difficulties candidates and the CAS experienced because of the technical issues. We continue towork with the CAS to support the best testing experience possible for all CAS candidates sitting for exams with Pearson VUE.
