Update from the CEO Regarding Impact of COVID-19 on the CAS

Dear CAS Members,

The CAS is closely monitoring the continuing developments pertaining to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). With the constant stream of evolving information, I wanted to provide our community with an update on the considerations and actions the CAS is taking to ensure the health and safety of our members, candidates, and other stakeholders. These include:
Cancelling the 2020 Ratemaking, Product and Modeling (RPM) Seminar set to take place March 23-25 in New Orleans.

  • Transitioning the March Board of Directors meeting to a virtual event.
  • Cancelling April Exam Sittings
  • Transitioning the CAS Spring Meeting in May to a virtual event.
  • Closing the CAS Office in Arlington, Virginia and requiring all CAS employees to work remotely at least through April 30.

To the last point, you should know that the CAS Office has maintained a work-from-home option for several years and our staff is well-equipped to continue providing the strong level of member service you have come to expect and appreciate. That said, I will advise you that the most efficient means of reaching us is via email, either directly to a staff member, or through the main office email address of office@casact.org. You are also welcome to contact our Actuaries' Resource Center at ARC@casact.org, where our customer service staff can respond to a variety of your questions or will quickly divert your request to the most appropriate staff member. We will also continue to be proactive in contacting members directly and posting updates on our website as events unfold.

Maintaining a strong, active and healthy community is the CAS' number one priority and I strongly encourage everyone reading this message to take all necessary steps to stall the spread of this pandemic. Please know that I understand any frustration and uncertainty you may be feeling during these challenging times. We will get through this together, as a community, and we will continue to keep you informed as we make decisions about CAS events and activities impacted by COVID-19.

Sincerely,

Victor Carter-Bey, D.M.
CEO
