This webinar is complimentary to non-North American audiences in the CAS.

This webinar will address COVID and pandemic modelling as a new area for actuaries to consider across varied practice areas. It will attempt to analyse and understand the factors influencing COVID outcomes in different parts of the world by comparing examples in UK and some sub-saharan African countries. The webinar will cover the basics of disease spread modelling, its data needs and how to incorporate assumptions to use for scenario modelling.

Speakers

Maryam Abdullah
BSc FIA, Interim Head of Analytics at Green Light Re and CEO of Situation Hub

Maryam is a qualified GI Actuary with twenty years’ experience primarily in the London and Lloyd's market working as an actuary and a reinsurance broker. She specialises in structuring and developing reinsurance and capital markets solutions as well as enterprise risk management. Most recently she has led the IFoA's COVID Action Taskforce for scenario modelling. She has also worked on modelling COVID_19 and developing pandemic insurance products for the Sovereign nations in Africa working with the UN, Africa CDC, and the African Union.

 

Haedeh Nazari
PhD FIA, UK PCG Property Actuary at AIG UK

Haedeh Nazari is a general insurance pricing actuary who has worked across different markets in the last 10 years. She has experience pricing products in consumer mass market, High and Middle network markets, and some commercial products. Before joining actuarial profession, she worked as a university lecturer teaching mathematics and computer science (basic to graduate) courses.
