First Paper Presented at a Meeting of the Casualty Actuarial and Statistical Society of America

“Scientific Methods of Computing Compensation Rates” by I.M. Rubinow was the first paper presented at a meeting of the Casualty Actuarial and Statistical Society of America. The second paper by Albert Mowbray, “How Extensive a Payroll Exposure is Necessary to Give a Dependable Pure Premium,” shows that what we now call credibility was a hot topic from the beginning of the CAS.  Through these first paper presentations, the continuing education of members began as an unintended by-product of the original purpose of the CAS.
