CAS Members Present at 55th Actuarial Research Conference
Last month CAS members virtually joined an array of actuarial science experts promoting education, research and interaction within the industry at the 55th Actuarial Research Conference (ARC). The ARC provides an opportunity for academics and practitioners to meet and discuss actuarial problems and their solutions. The 2020 conference was hosted by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, August 10-12.
CAS members presented on several topics including diversity and inclusion, the impact of COVID-19 and climate finance. Highlights included:
Monday, August 10th
Jonathan Charak, FCAS, insurance executive and actuary at Zurich North America presented “Parametric Insurance.”
Tuesday, August 11th
Mallika Bender, FCAS, co-chair of the Joint Casualty Actuarial Society/Society of Actuaries Committee on Inclusion, Equity and Diversity, and Shawna Ackerman, FCAS, immediate past president of the American Academy of Actuaries spoke on a diversity and inclusion panel.
Steve Kolk, ACAS, was a panelist on a session discussing “climate finance.”
Brian Fannin, ACAS, CSPA, CAS staff research actuary, spoke on the panel “Impact of COVID-19 on P&C Markets: North America and International.”
