Casualty Actuarial Society Announces 2021 Volunteer Award Winners
The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) is pleased to announce the winners for the 2021 Volunteer Awards.
The New Members Award is given annually to one or more members of the CAS who have made significant volunteer contributions within five years of their most recent credential.
The 2021 New Members Award is awarded to Gloria Asare, FCAS for her work with the International Association of Black Actuaries, Sara Chen, FCAS for her work with the Microlearning Task Force, Kenneth S. Hsu, FCAS for his work with the Professionalism Education Committee, Erin Lachen, FCAS for her work with the Syllabus and Examination Committee, and Allison M. Newhouse, FCAS for her work with the CAS Student Central Summer Program and University Engagement Committee.
The Above & Beyond Achievement Award is given annually to one or more members of the CAS who have made a recent contribution which is conspicuously above and beyond what is reasonably expected.
The 2021 Above and Beyond Award is awarded to Lisa Yeung, FCAS, Patricia Hladun, FCAS, and Shengli Huang, FCAS, for their joint work with the Syllabus and Examination Committee, Stephanie Gould Rabin, ACAS for her work on the Reinsurance Seminar Committee, Annual and Spring Meeting Planning Committee, and Learning Enhancement Process, and Patrick Ford, FCAS for his work with the Syllabus and Examination Committee.
The Matthew Rodermund Memorial Service Award recognizes CAS members who have made significant volunteer contributions to the actuarial profession over the course of their career. The award was established in 1990 in honor of Matt Rodermund's years of volunteer service to the Casualty Actuarial Society.
The 2021 Matthew Rodermund Memorial Award is awarded to three CAS Fellows: Rick Gorvett for over 30 years of volunteerism, Leslie Marlo for over 24 years of volunteerism, and Robert F. Wolf for over 28 years of volunteerism.
This year’s honorees represent a diverse set of individuals spanning various committees from the CAS’s pool of over 2,800 volunteers.
All volunteer award winners will be recognized at the 2021 CAS Annual Meeting in San Diego, CA this November. Additionally, the CAS will feature the award winners in an article in an upcoming edition of the Actuarial Review.
