Volunteers Needed to Tutor Math through the Actuarial Foundation’s Math Motivators Program

Math Motivators, a program of the Actuarial Foundation, provides free math tutoring to its partner schools and organizations. Volunteer actuaries, other STEM professionals, and college students work with students in underserved communities who need extra math support but would otherwise not have the resources to get additional help. They are looking for volunteers to provide weekly tutoring to selected students at middle or high schools during the school year. The tutoring sessions are typically 45 to 60 minutes and run for eight to ten weeks. For more information about the program, please visit the Math Motivators page on The Actuarial Foundation website.

Programs typically start in late September or early October, so they are looking for volunteers to sign up soon to complete background checks (background checks can take up to a month to process).

They will have in-person tutoring programs in the following cities:

  • Chicago, IL
  • Des Moines, IA
  • Hartford, CT
  • Minneapolis / St. Paul, MN
  • Philadelphia, PA

There are also limited in-person opportunities in Lincoln, NE, and Portland, ME.

If you’re interested in volunteering, please send an email to mathmotivators@actfnd.org. Please indicate in which city you are interested in volunteering. If you have any questions, please contact Damaris Rodriguez at Damaris.Rodriguez@actfnd.orgor Stacey Muller at Stacey.Muller@actfnd.org.
