Motor insurance is continuously evolving around the world. Countries with carefully controlled tariffs are even considering de-tariffication. The US motor insurance industry, while regulated, has enjoyed significant freedom to innovate over the past three to four decades.

This session will highlight the major changes that have occurred in the US motor insurance products over that time period and the changes on the near horizon. Hopefully, the other countries can learn from the US successes and mistakes to rapidly innovate to the benefit of their customers.

Geoff Werner, FCAS, Werner Advisory LLC

Geoff Werner has spent over 30 years in the insurance industry. Geoff is currently the Managing Member of Werner Advisory. Prior to launching Werner Advisory, he worked at two top 10 insurance companies, two global consulting firms and a leading global telematics service provider. He also recently served on the Board of Directors for the Casualty Actuarial Society and is the current Chair of the Actuarial Standards Board Casualty Committee.

Geoff specializes in insurance product innovation and is a recognized expert in insurance pricing as evidenced by being the co-author of the text used by the CAS to educate all actuarial candidates in basic ratemaking techniques.

During his career, Geoff was a pioneer in the use of predictive modeling and telematics for insurance products.

For the past 15 years, Geoff has been focused on the application of telematics and other IoT data sources as a means to revolutionize motor insurance products. During that time Geoff has provided strategic guidance and/or tactical support to more than 75 insurance carriers, OEMs and service providers around the world.
