Since 2020 the CAS has offered its Student Central Summer Program to participants from around the world. Presented virtually, it was originally intended to replace canceled summer internships as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the eight-week mentor-led program, students learn about the P&C industry, pricing, reserving, predictive modeling and interview preparation. Webinars and town hall meetings are recorded for those unable to attend live. The program culminates in a case study competition with prizes.

Ratemaking for property-casualty insurance is being transformed through technology. From predictive modeling and artificial intelligence to smart homes and telematics, technology continues to unlock new approaches for actuaries who develop P&C rates.
The Casualty Actuarial Society’s (CAS) Ratemaking Working Group is issuing a call for papers regarding technological applications for ratemaking to publish clear, practical and accessible papers for actuaries. Proposals should be submitted by Monday, September 16, 2024.

The virtual Predictive Analytics (PA) bootcamp is a six-week virtual course.
The PA Bootcamp will cover topics from both the classical statistics and machine learning paradigms. The content will be self-contained and designed for beginners with little or no experience with data science. We will leverage and provide introductions to predictive modeling in R and Python.

On May 1, 2024, many candidates had a disrupted exam administration experience due to Pearson VUE technology issues. This included candidates who completed their exam but experienced technical issues, candidates who partially completed their exam with technical issues but who could not submit their final exam, and candidates who could not take their exam at all.
Understanding the importance of exam progress to our candidates and their employers, the CAS decided that all candidates scheduled to sit on May 1 would have the option to reschedule and sit for their exam.
