STAY TUNED! If you are anticipating additional search filters by attribute and level to align with the CAS Capability Model, it is coming later this Summer. As the CAS begins to code recorded sessions by specific attributes and levels (starting with the 2023 Annual Meeting), these will be tagged in the CAS database of presentations going forward and should be searchable.

But you may use the Capability Model now to help you identify topics. For example, if you want to move up one level under the content area “Functional Expertise,” you may search topics in the particular functional area to expand your knowledge.

Recorded content is searchable by Capability Model attribute and level in the CAS Online Library.

International Marketplace

The International Marketplace is becoming more and more a part of our lives every day. The speakers will provide us with insight into various elements of actuarial work within the International Marketplace. They will touch on the process currently being undertaken by the Brazilian government to break the long-standing reinsurance monopoly and open the reinsurance market in that country. Related to this will be a discussion on an approach for reinsurance optimization that treats reinsurance as an alternative source of contingent capital, within a corporate finance perspective. The session will also review some of the differences in regulatory requirements related to loss reserves in various countries as well as discuss differences in perspective throughout the actuarial community on what reserve ranges represent.

The Language of Uncertainty: What Color is your Copula?

Without getting too technical, this session will review a few of the well-known methods that actuaries are using these days to put confidence intervals around their point estimates. As we stroll through various examples, we will expose the annoyingly technical stochastic terminology for the simple concepts they truly are. Such terms include, but are not limited to, the following top ten: Mack, bootstrap, parameter risk, process risk, tail variability, residuals, outliers, positive-definite correlation matrices, copulas, and that ever-elusive "reasonable range." Audience participation is encouraged. Judgment is required.

Citizens - Florida

Citizens Property Insurance of Florida was created in 2002 as a result of a legislatively mandated combination of the Florida Residential Property and Casualty Joint Underwriting Association (FRPCJUA) and the Florida Windstorm Underwriting Association (FWUA). After the storms of 2004 and 2005, many property insurers drastically reduced their writings in the Florida market. As a result, Citizens has experienced tremendous growth. Currently it is the largest property insurer in Florida and one of the largest in the country. As a state-backed entity, Citizens faces a unique set of circumstances when dealing with the property insurance issue in Florida. This session will discuss the history of Citizens in Florida as well as the current state of property insurance in Florida and what role Citizens plays.
