Property & Casualty rating factors have recently come under intense scrutiny by consumer advocates and regulators, alike. This is part of a broader focus in the United States on the potential impacts of societal systemic bias across many industries.

The exam was developed to meet the needs of employers and future members in Asia, South America, and Europe, and received an above average rating for overall quality from those who took the exam last year.

CAS Committees
The key to the success of the CAS lies in the effective utilization of all of its resources - officers and directors, committees and task forces, and staff. The work done by committees, all on a volunteer basis, is the lifeblood that constitutes the core of the Society's professional actuarial commitment to fulfilling its purposes. All references in this manual to committees apply to task forces and working parties as well.

Candidates taking the upper-level exams often find challenges different from those of the preliminary exams. The biggest is the shift from memorizing and manipulating mathematical formulas and equations to reading papers and answering essay questions. Here are some tips to help you prepare for the language-heavy, upper-level, actuarial exams.
Congratulations to the newly minted Associates, and welcome to the Society! As the excitement is wearing off, it can be a good time to consider getting more involved and engaged with the actuarial community. Whether you are looking to expand your actuarial network, research a topic of interest, or inspire the younger generations, there are many volunteer opportunities within the community for you. Entering its 20th year, the CAS Trust Scholarship Program will now award scholarships for up to eight college students per year. Up to four recipients will receive $5,000 scholarships and all-expense-paid trips to the CAS Annual Meeting (held in Washington D.C. in 2020). Up to four other recipients will receive scholarships of $2,500. The maximum amount of money awarded will be $30,000 compared to $20,000 in prior years.
The exam is finally over. After taking a day or two to relax, you go online to fill out your survey. You take time to type in responses to the open-ended questions before you submit…but then what? You asked about the lined paper three sittings in a row, but nothing ever seems to change! Is anyone even reading these?
Volunteers, volunteers, volunteers! You've probably heard Future Fellows and other CAS communications talking about the critical role of volunteers in the examination process. In honor of National Volunteer Week, the CAS published an infographic in April showing that nearly 1,000 Fellows volunteer as part of the examination process. So Future Fellows decided to take a moment to focus on the work of the volunteers in the Syllabus & Examination Committee who help to write the exams.
So, you're about to take your first CAS exam. Congrats! Now what? How are CAS exams different than the preliminary exams? Whether you are currently taking preliminary exams, on your last exam, or anywhere in between, the last thing you should be worried about is the logistics and processes for exam day. Here is some guidance for new CAS exam-takers, as well as a refresher for those who have already taken CAS exams.
I envy the candidates who pass all their exams on the first try, but I know plenty of candidates who inconsistently pass exams on the second, third, or eighth attempt. At the same time there are students who will earn their initial designations in their early 20s, late 20s, 30s or 40s, and possibly later.
