The CAS now recognizes some actuarial professional exam credits and education requirements that students earned through university coursework!
Students who earned preliminary exam waivers exemptions for university coursework from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), Actuarial Society of South Africa (ASSA), Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI), or Actuaries Institute (Australia) may receive equivalent waivers from the CAS.
Qualification for these waivers is offered in accordance with examination and educational experience equivalences between the syllabi of these associations as detailed below.
Equivalencies Across International Actuarial Credentialing Societies
IFoA, Actuaries Institute (Australia), and IAI | ASSA | CAS |
---|---|---|
CB1 | A113 | VEE-Accounting and Finance |
CB2 | A112 | VEE-Economics |
CS1 | A111 | Exam 1 |
CM1 | A211 | Exam 2 |
CS1 and CS2 | A111 and A212 | Exam MAS-I |
Candidates applying for CAS credits based on the above equivalencies should refer to the published lists of universities that currently have IFoA examination exemption agreements to ensure that your university degree or course qualifies for a waiver. CAS will only be able to process waiver applications for university degrees or courses that have been made publicly viewable on the internet by the granting society.
To qualify for CAS waivers, students must:
- Have successfully completed coursework that qualifies for one or more of the exemptions listed in the chart above.
- Completed the coursework when the waiver agreement was in place and requested waiver credit within the allowable timeframe.
- Submit all application requirements including:
- online form (linked below)
- official academic transcripts (with translation, if not provided in English) sent to the CAS directly from the University. Transcripts must be no more than five years old.
- Non-refundable processing fee payment of $50 USD per waiver requested.
- Have no current or pending disciplinary sanctions issued by a local or international actuarial association.
The CAS reserves the right to verify the authenticity of this application by contacting the University or actuarial society directly.
Application Process
Submission of the University Credit Exam Waiver Application Form will generate an invoice ($50 per exam waiver requested) that will be emailed to the candidate within 5 business days. The application verification process will begin once all application materials and payment have been received.
Candidates will need to request an official transcript from the university, to be sent from the university directly to the CAS. Official transcripts should be emailed to exam-waivers@casact.org
Once the application, fee, and official transcript are received, candidates will be notified of the evaluation verification results within 10 business days. The notification will specify whether the credits are accepted or denied for waiver purposes.
