The onset of the Covid-19 virus has had a lasting impact on healthcare costs and utilization patterns. In this webinar, we will identify the recent unit cost and utilization trends in healthcare, including the impact of Covid-19 and telehealth, and describe how it impacts the perspective of the workers compensation insurer, insured employer, and insured employee.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) continues to be a concern to insurers as a source of potential losses. In this sessions, we will define PFAS and the associated risks, discuss how insurers should consider PFAS from a reserving standpoint, and share an overview on how insurers have responded from an underwriting perspective to this risk.

The actuarial profession is changing rapidly, fueled by the rise of advanced analytics, technological advancements and volumes of data that we could never have previously dreamed of. As these key influences provide an opportunity to transform our profession, actuaries will be faced with new challenges and will increasingly cross-collaborate with other insurance stakeholders.
The Candidate Liaison Committee (CLC) is a group of about 25 volunteers who work to be the conduit of information and feedback between the CAS and the candidates who are taking CAS exams. William Wilder, CAS Vice President-Admissions, put it best at the CLC’s recent, virtual annual meeting: “The CLC is the voice and the ear of the candidates.” We are excited to welcome four new CAS members to the CLC.

The RPM Seminar Committee is putting on this two-day event with eight carefully curated sessions. You can register for one day or all two days at a discount. We have scheduled breaks and exhibit time to allow you to interact with other attendees and exhibitors or to take care of your own work.
Presentation begins with an overview of the Insurance Information Institute’s (Triple-I) insurance economics outlook and underwriting projections, updated quarterly by their economists and actuaries. The presentation then transitions to Triple-I’s perspective on key risks and opportunities facing the insurance industry, illuminated by recent Insurance Research Council (IRC) public policy research studies.

Volunteerism is a core value of the CAS, and about one-third of CAS members volunteer for the organization each year. CAS candidates have increasingly expressed an interest contributing as volunteers too, and there are a number of ways that candidates can serve as volunteers. Candidates should check with their employer to make sure they support the time commitment for volunteer activities.

Arlington, Va. – October 8, 2020 – The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) announces the appointment of Sean Kevelighan, president and chief executive officer of the Insurance Information Institute (Triple-I), to its Board of Directors for a one-year term that begins in November 2020.
The Joint Risk Management Section of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, the Casualty Actuarial Society, and the Society of Actuaries will oversee an online survey to help understand individual risk managers' perspectives on emerging risks. We value insights from all levels of experience and background and invite you to participate in this annual survey.
There has been a lot of changes in the exam process over the last year. Given that these changes were meant to occur over a three-year period, it’s understandable that candidates have a lot of questions. Two exam-related changes you may have noticed in this most recent sitting are the feedback and the grievance processes.

The CAS Nominating Committee wants your input on the slate of candidates for the 2021 CAS elections for the Board of Directors and President-Elect. Any member may submit a nomination, and if you are a Fellow of the CAS, you are welcome to nominate yourself. The Nominating Committee will give due consideration to all nominations as it selects which candidates will be included on the 2021 CAS elections ballot.
