As risks emerging from new technologies require more complex risk quantification and management tools, previous methods may no longer be relevant. At the same time, tools of the digital revolution — smartphones and wearable devices — are giving us more data than ever before. It is vital that actuaries mine this increasing volume of data and develop innovative techniques to evaluate it.

The CAS maintains an active organizational account on GitHub. What's GitHub? It's a cloud-based version control system that allows actuaries and others to share and enhance code. Note that code encompasses more than just software. By writing in a format like RMarkdown, we can also share research papers, and other human-readable items.
This year the Casualty Actuarial Society is moving forward with its Seminar on Reinsurance as a completely virtual event, June 1-2, 2020.
The purpose of this seminar is to provide information on a variety of reinsurance topics. Practical approaches to problems will be presented and discussion will be encouraged. Participants can expect to gain awareness and insight into difficult issues and are encouraged to share their own ideas.

In 2023, the CAS announced a new ACAS requirement called Property & Casualty Predictive Analytics (PCPA). While the initial deadline to earn the ACAS credential without taking PCPA was announced as November 1, 2025, the CAS recently decided to extend this deadline to January 1, 2026. This means that to earn your ACAS without taking PCPA, you must have each of the current ACAS requirements on your transcript prior to January 1, 2026.
