Dear CAS members and community,
Acts of hate against East and Southeast Asian communities in North America have been on the rise during the last year. This week’s violence in Atlanta is a terrible reminder that we have not seen the end of this trend. The Casualty Actuarial Society stands in solidarity with our Asian members, candidates and communities against acts of racism. We value our members and candidates of East and Southeast Asian descent, who make up a significant portion of our membership as a whole, both in North America and around the world.

As risks emerging from new technologies require more complex risk quantification and management tools, previous methods may no longer be relevant. At the same time, tools of the digital revolution — smartphones and wearable devices — are giving us more data than ever before. It is vital that actuaries mine this increasing volume of data and develop innovative techniques to evaluate it.
Our July update about on-demand education available from UCAS features content from our recent webinars and the recent Virtual Workshop: Reserving Bootcamp.
Applied statistical knowledge is important to Casualty Actuaries in their core areas of practice: reserving and ratemaking. Predictive modeling is also a tool that is increasingly being embraced by insurance companies, and knowledge of applied statistics is a foundation for understanding predictive models.
PRESENTATIONS SLIDE SEARCH
Many of the presentations from CAS meetings and seminars have been submitted by the speakers and are available for download. These presentations have been cataloged in a searchable database that includes the title, speaker(s), session description, and meeting or seminar at which it was presented.
With all the different virtual event offerings offered to members, the CAS has put together this infographic to show what our live virtual events have to offer. If you want a broad selection of topics with engagement with other attendees, our virtual conferences are the best fit. For highly interactive small groups, you’ll do well with our virtual bootcamps and workshops. Finally, if you just need to learn about a hot topic the CAS offers two webinars every month.
Variance and the CAS monographs are in search of volunteers to review submissions. It’s a great opportunity to contribute to new actuarial literature!
A significant part of the work in producing Variance and monographs involves reviewing submissions. This is handled by (1) the Variance associate editors, who select and invite peer reviewers, and (2) the reviewers themselves. Variance needs volunteers for both roles, and the CAS monograph program is in search of peer reviewers.
