Have you seen the CAS announcement about changes to the Course on Professionalism?
The CAS Professionalism Education Committee is excited to announce two upcoming changes to the Course on Professionalism:
The purpose of the “Exams in Real Life” series is to share how content from CAS exams is used in the workplace today. In essence, we would like to supply a little motivation by answering “Why am I learning this stuff?” and “When am I ever going to use any of it?” If you have not already done so, please take a moment to read our prior articles (see Exams IRL Archive below).
For this issue, we’re focusing on MAS II – Modern Actuarial Statistics II.
The material on MAS II introduces candidates to a powerful list of skills!
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought changes and made us rethink our way of doing things. Given the worldwide public health emergency, the CAS started offering a virtual Course on Professionalism (COP) in 2020. This enabled candidates to make good use of their time and accomplish something towards their ACAS credential if they were not comfortable taking exams.
Information on study aids and seminars is provided only as a convenience to CAS candidates. The CAS takes no responsibility for the accuracy or quality of the study aids and seminar announcements attached to this notice.
Please note that the Examination Committee expects candidates to read the material cited in the Syllabus and to use other material as a complement to the primary sources rather than a substitution for them.
I know, it’s not a question that crosses the minds of many people. It’s probably not a question that crosses the minds of even actuaries. It should, though.
Since 2020 the CAS has offered its Student Central Summer Program to participants from around the world. Presented virtually, it was originally intended to replace canceled summer internships as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the eight-week mentor-led program, students learn about the P&C industry, pricing, reserving, predictive modeling and interview preparation. Webinars and town hall meetings are recorded for those unable to attend live. The program culminates in a case study competition with prizes.
In the past few years, a multitude of organizations have emerged with a focus on increasing diversity, equity and inclusion within the actuarial profession. Even though these organizations have different goals and visions, they all help to improve the experience for current actuarial candidates and increase the breadth of opportunities available to future candidates.
The CAS Trust Scholarship program, funded by donations to the CAS Trust, awards up to three scholarships to deserving students annually. The scholarship’s intent is to further students’ interest in the property/casualty actuarial profession and encourage pursuit of the CAS designation. Recipients are chosen, by the CAS Trust Scholarship Subcommittee.
This webinar is 90 minutes.
This webinar is complimentary to non-North American audiences in the CAS.
Dear CAS Members,

The CAS has released the April/May 2024 Post Exam Summary. Post Exam Summaries were introduced in Spring 2023 and each summary consists of a general section that applies universally to all constructed response exams, followed by individual sections for each of the exams administered during the last sitting.
Math Motivators, a program of the Actuarial Foundation, provides free math tutoring to its partner schools and organizations. Volunteer actuaries, other STEM professionals, and college students work with students in underserved communities who need extra math support but would otherwise not have the resources to get additional help. They are looking for volunteers to provide weekly tutoring to selected students at middle or high schools during the school year. The tutoring sessions are typically 45 to 60 minutes and run for eight to ten weeks.
Registration is now closed.
